The RHYTHM

Collective

What is the RHYTHM Collective?

The RHYTHM Collective will be the core group behind the RHYTHM program.
As of February 2026, the RHYTHM collective is in its formation stage.

We are a small, collaborative group of musicians, movers, and cross-disciplinary creatives coming together to explore rhythm, sound, melody, and movement through making music and moving together. This isn’t a performance group or a class. There’s no instruction and no expectation to “do it right.” The focus is on contributing, listening, responding, and seeing what takes shape when people gather and create rhythm together in a well-held intentional space.

Whether you work with percussion, voice, guitar, movement, or other rhythmic forms, the Collective is for people who bring willingness, skill, curiosity, and a genuine interest in co-creating with others. Together, we develop the rhythmic foundation that supports the RHYTHM program and helps shape what it becomes over time.

The Work of the RHYTHM Collective

Beginning in February 2026, we’ll meet regularly over several months in a multi-room, sound-filled venue in Calgary’s Beltline. A steady rhythmic foundation moves through the space, giving shape to weekly sessions where we play, experiment, and gradually build the public RHYTHM experience from the inside out.

As we work together over time, we get to know one another musically and creatively. Patterns, grooves, and shared ways of listening begin to take shape—forming a rhythmic base that carries through the work and into the public RHYTHM gatherings.

The work intentionally softens familiar roles. At different moments, we move between playing and listening, leading and following, structure and improvisation. When challenges arise—as they do in any creative collaboration—we stay with the process and work through them together.

As a group, we:

  • Develop a shared rhythmic repertoire that becomes the foundation of the public RHYTHM experience

  • Create immersive musical environments where sound, movement, and voice all have a place

  • Explore how rhythm supports regulation, energy release, and connection

  • Share styles, knowledge, talents, approaches, and rhythmic ideas to expand both individual and collective range

  • Co-create, host, and facilitate public RHYTHM gatherings—open sessions where what we’ve developed together is shared with the wider community

  • This isn’t just a music group. Joining the RHYTHM Collective means:

    • Working with rhythm and movement as sources of connection, vitality, joy, creativity, grounding, release, and connection

    • Being part of a small group that creates together over time, getting to know one another through shared work

    • Expanding your musical or expressive range through ongoing collaboration

    • Reconnecting with play, groove, and creative energy in a way that has depth and continuity

    • Taking part in shaping something at its beginning—the rhythmic foundation of a larger vision for RHYTHM as it grows

You don’t need to be a professional musician, dancer, or even “musical” in the traditional sense. What matters is a willingness to listen, improvise, and contribute to something shared. The Collective is where relationships form, trust develops, and the roots of RHYTHM are established.

  • Who Are We Calling In?

We’re inviting a small, intentional group of people who are drawn to rhythm and collaborative creation. This includes people who work with music, movement, sound, or facilitation—and who enjoy exploring rhythm as a way of connecting, creating, and working together over time.

This is likely a good fit if you:

    • Have experience or genuine curiosity with rhythm, sound, or movement

    • Enjoy collaborating with others and contributing to something shared

    • Are comfortable listening, responding, and adapting within a group

    • Value process as much as outcome

People in the Collective may come from backgrounds such as:

    • Percussion, drumming, or other rhythm-based instruments

    • Vocal improvisation, chanting, or spoken word

    • Dance, free movement, or somatic-based expression

    • Sound design, looping, or live mixing

    • Rhythm-based storytelling, ritual, or cultural drumming traditions

    • Designing or holding immersive, multi-sensory spaces

You don’t need to check every box. What matters most is curiosity, presence, and a willingness to engage creatively with others.

  • The Rhythm Collective is a small, intentional group that meets weekly. It’s designed to work best with a limited number of people, allowing continuity, familiarity, and shared momentum to develop over time. It won’t be the right fit for everyone—and that’s okay. Anyone who isn’t part of the Collective is still welcome to participate in the public RHYTHM program.

    • Membership involves a commitment to showing up, both practically and relationally. There is a monthly financial contribution and an expectation of regular attendance at Collective sessions. This consistency is what allows trust, shared rhythm, and creative depth to grow.

Sessions are collaborative and guided, but not instructional. There’s no pressure to perform and no hierarchy of skill. Members contribute simply by showing up as they are—listening, playing, moving, and responding. What you bring adds to the group, and what the group offers is received in kind.

The Collective is built around process. There is an application process for those who feel drawn to join, and participation may be for a season or for longer. People may come and go over time as their lives and capacity change, while the Collective continues to evolve.

Members can expect an experience that is grounded, healthy, and meaningful. Over time, many people notice growth—not only in their musical or rhythmic expression, but in how they relate, collaborate, and show up with others. The opportunity here is to be part of something as it’s taking shape, to contribute to it for a while or for a longer arc, and to see what becomes possible through shared rhythm and sustained connection.
